Bathenia Haven

Bathenia Haven

Alapatt Palathingal Tharavattuyogam has been planning for a memorial for the son of the family, Bishop Mar George Alapatt , former Bishop of Thrissur. During the Birth Centenary celebration of Bishop, the Tharavattuyogam decided to build twenty houses for the homeless. Bishop Alapatt himself had wished earlier to start a housing project for the poor. ‘Bathenia Haven’ is the dream project of the Alapatt Palathingal Tharavattuyogam in order to build houses for the needy irrespective of their caste or creed. And it fulfilled the dream of the Bishop as well.

To start with Dr. Thomas (Son of Alapatt Palathingal Ittiachen Porinchu) and his wife Dr. Kitty, who are residing in US came with an offer to donate a land of one acre for the project. Alapatt Palathingal Tharavattuyogam decided to build twenty houses in that land with the help of members of the family. The first stone was laid by Mar James Pazhayattil, Bishop of Irinjalakuda Diocese. Inauguration of the project was done by Mrs. K.R. Gouriamma, the then State Minister for Agriculture on July 11, 2001.The Inaugural Meeting was attended by a number of important personalities like the Vicar General of Thrissur Diocese, several priests and four MLA s of near by Constituencies. The corner stone of the first house was laid by Msgr. Joseph Kakkassery on November 6th 2001, which was the 28th Death Anniversary day of Bishop Alapatt. The transformation of the dream to reality was considered to be a hectic task for the Alapatt Palathingal Tharavattuyogam in the beginning. The project became a success only because of the wholehearted support and co-operation of the family members and Alapatt Palathingal Charitable Society. Next we intend to add common amenities as well as an Auditorium to the project. We are sure that it too can be fulfilled with the co-operation of the family members. Together we can make it a big success.
